Thanks girls for the encouragement. It's always good to know you have others there with you and those on the other side! Good stuff to try too. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions. I just really want to help my sweet boys be the best they can be- and enjoy them along the way!! :)

We are right there with you, marci! Especially now with Lily, Piper has become incredibly needy of my time. If i have to put the dog leash on one more time, pretend to be the "really big dog" (that does a lot for your self esteem) and do tricks, I might go crazy. Some things we've tried with Piper....we bought her a "reading pillow" (bean bag chair) and we go to the library A LOT so she spends a lot of time reading her books there. We also made her big bookshelf really accessible. My genius friend, Leslie, gave her friends craft boxes for Christmas. They are photo boxes full of art supplies- construction paper, puff balls, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, glitter paint, kids' scissors, popsicle sticks, stickers, etc. I've added glue sticks and crayons to it. It's a little messy but easy enough for Piper to play with. But I think what I'm learning is that we're just the best playmates right now- as hard as it is. We understand their language and their needs and they, for some reason, think we are the most fun. Piper told me yesterday, "Mommy, you're my best friend." And really- that's all I needed to hear to put that leash back on again. Love and MISS you guys.

funny, i was just thinking today how abby has grown in this--and how MUCH of a struggle it was for so long. i literally was pondering the change in her. here's what i think has made a difference.
1. no tv first thing in the morning. if we watch it later in the day, it doesn't seem to make as much of a difference. if they watch it first thing, their brains seem unable to play independently the rest of the day.
2. maturing. i think she is just flat growing up.
3. having someone to play with. aka, julia.
all that to say, take heart. j will get there. keep encouraging him.
random thought, does he have any room time where he plays alone in his room?
